Thirteen
Moons Gallery
"At the
forefront of innovation and exploration in Fiber Arts, Thirteen
Moons Gallery represents the work of both established and emerging
artists"
This is a web site for the Thirteen Moons Gallery
on Canyon Road in Santa Fe. We wanted to create a clean & minimal
contemporary design that evoked the fiber arts (hence, the overlapping
translucent plaid stripes) and intense yet earthy colors evocative
of New Mexico and the Southwest.
We designed and constructed this site in early 2003 and provided
ongoing maintenance on a timely basis. This included creating a new “current
exhibit” page for each monthly artist’s show with a
Fash slide show of the artist’s work. Images of new artworks
were added to the web site as they come into the gallery and removed
as they sold.
The flash slide shows on this web site were designed and optimized
to be streaming and start almost instantly even on a slow dial-up
connection. As the slide show progresses, the images continue to
download in the background, so there is no delay at the beginning,
nor at any point in the slide show. The movie loops back to the
beginning, and then will continue to play, even after disconnecting
from the internet.
Play, pause, next and last
buttons are provided so you can quickly go to any part of the movie,
or pause and print out that image. These movies have been
made backwards comparable to the flash 5 player and above, of which
over 95% of all computers have.
The layout of this site is intended for medium to large monitors,
and requires some scrolling on smaller monitors and/or lower resolutions.

James
Koehler
This
is a site about tapestry artist, James koehler:
"James
Koehler is one of the most sought after weavers in the southwest,
with his vibrant tapestries attracting the attention of important
collectors and museums."
-Robert
Ewing, former director
Museum of Fine Arts
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Designed in 2002, this site features the work of tapestry artist
James Koehler. We wanted a minimal, undistracted look and feel for
his site and chose a neutral black background to contrast the artist’s
tapestries. We created a flash slide show based on images of the
artist, his work, and the weaving process for the home page. We
also chose to keep the layout of his images, on the edition and
one-of-a-kind tapestry pages, clean & uncluttered, placing the
title and size info on the following full-size detail pages.
We created a separate slide show on the weaving-process page that
takes the viewer through the weaving process - from the dyeing of
the wool, to the spinning, to the design of the weaving itself and
how that is applied to the loom and to the technique of applying
the various colors of yarn to the tapestry.
These flash movies are also optimized, and streaming.
