Jane Kenyon

Jane Kenyon’s richly colored and densely stitched wall pieces are feasts for the eyes and the mind. Her trademark surfaces are densely layered threads – stitches-- some created by hand, most created by machine; built up and carved out high and low areas, enriched with lace-like spaces that are held together only by fabric constructed with more dense threads interlocked. She constructs with a palette of jewel-like hues that are enhanced by hand-dyed fabrics and threads. Her inspiration “comes from many sources—the environment, historical textiles, other women and their lives. Each piece may have a different layer of meaning, some more obvious than others, but I would like each piece to stand on its own aesthetically, whether or not the viewer discovers the meaning hidden therein.”
